The first Substrata Festival explores varying perspectives of scale though the use of sound, composition, and visuals. Opening night focuses on non-traditional approaches to the electric guitar: Australia’s OREN AMBARCHI presents his brand of immersive, experimental drone-ambient music. ELUVIUM performs new compositions for piano and drone guitar. Portland’s MARCUS FISCHER showcases his audiovisual works. Canadian sound artist CRYS COLE opens the showcase, performing with contact microphones, minimal signal processing and no-input mixing board.
About
Each month, Nonsequitur and a community of like-minded organizations and artists present ten concerts of adventurous and experimental music in the gorgeous Chapel Performance Space at the Good Shepherd Center (which sits on the traditional homelands of the Duwamish people): contemporary/post-classical composition, free improvisation and the outer limits of jazz, electronic/electroacoustic music, new instruments, phonography, sound art, and other innovative musics. Watch a video clip about us on the Seattle Channel.
