With music by composer Garrett Fisher and choreography by Christy Fisher, Kocho is a multimedia music-theater piece based on the Noh play by Nobumitsu that tells the story of a wandering Priest who meets a butterfly and “liberates” it by letting it dance under the plum blossom. With the support of the Fisher Ensemble, the score incorporates sounds and instruments from multiple cultures. Pianist Byron Schenkman also performs Fisher’s new Piano Raga No. 1.
About
Each month, Nonsequitur and a community of like-minded organizations and artists present ten concerts of adventurous and experimental music in the gorgeous Chapel Performance Space at the Good Shepherd Center (which sits on the traditional homelands of the Duwamish people): contemporary/post-classical composition, free improvisation and the outer limits of jazz, electronic/electroacoustic music, new instruments, phonography, sound art, and other innovative musics.
